The 41st Marin Designers Showcase announces its selection of 24 design firms for the premier design event. Many of the Bay Area's most well-known designers will create sophisticated rooms befitting the contemporary architecture of a spectacular new estate, Villa Belvedere. Construction is nearing completion at the exclusive Belvedere location which features 180 degree views of the San Francisco bay, from the Golden Gate and to the Bay Bridge. This world-class home and the inspirational work of Showcase designers were open to the public in early 2012, but are now over. All proceeds from the Marin Designers Showcase benefit the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership. Suzanne Tucker of Tucker & Marks, honored by Architectural Digest as one of the top ten designers in the world, will create an expansive light-filled living room and office that incorporates Bay Views and provides a showcase for painting and sculpture. Candace Barnes, featured on Bravo's "Million Dollar Decorator," will draw from the light and colors of the surrounding landscape to create a contemporary dining room. The family and breakfast room along with the kitchen will be designed by David Kensington, who was featured in a 2010 San Francisco Chronicle "Stylemaker Spotlight." Tiburon's Cecile Starin brings her background as a painter and fashion designer to one of the spacious guestrooms. Exterior landscaping will be designed by Stephen Suzman, profiled recently in Showcase media sponsor California Homes. "This year's Marin Showcase will be a total show stopper!"

The elegant waterfront estate spotlights stunning views from every room. It incorporates wrap-around multi-level decks, a chef's kitchen, and expansive rooms for indoor and outdoor living. A sophisticated gallery with floor-to-ceiling windows includes an adjacent butler's pantry, kitchen, and state-of-the-art wine vault for luxurious entertaining. A master suite in its own wing, six en suite bedrooms, a theater, fitness spa, and pool with cabana are featured on three levels.

This solar-powered Smart House incorporates integrated technology which can engage the house remotely by cell phone and over the web, a more efficient way to manage energy. The project will be GreenPoint Rated by the nonprofit, Build It Green. Showcase designers will continue sustainable practices incorporating reuse methods, energy saving materials, and nontoxic paints. A living roof tops the three-bay garage. The Belvedere site comes with an interesting history. Its original home was built in the 1930s for the President of Southern Pacific Railroad. Over the years, it has had several owners including the widow of Bill Harrah of Harrah's Hotel and Casinos and Jerry Ganz, inventor of the retractable seatbelt. The house was demolished in 1986. Although a project was planned, it was never built. After more than two decades, the current owner bought the property and with architect Sandy Walker designed the new estate. It incorporates some existing foundations and decks and highlights the spectacular views.

For nearly 50 years, the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership (Center) has promoted volunteerism, strengthened nonprofit organizations and enhanced community leadership to develop a vital and engaged community. We provide nonprofits with an array of services, from educational workshops and leadership forums to executive transition services and board development. As Marin's Volunteer Center, we facilitate and foster volunteering through programs like the Flexible Volunteer projects, Civic Engagement Leadership Team for older adults, volunteer matching, and volunteer mobilization in the aftermath of a disaster. The Center also organizes community-wide events like the Heart of Marin Awards volunteer appreciation event, the Marin Designers Showcase, and the Marin Human Race, the largest collaborative fundraiser in the county.
